Last night Annie Lennox performed at Hope Rising! a benefit concert for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Angélique Kidjo and Sarah McLachlan joined Annie on the bill for this spectacular event at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall.
The money raised from the Hope Rising! benefit concert will go directly into the hands of the community-based organizations working to turn the tide of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
Since 2003, the Stephen Lewis Foundation has distributed and committed more than $55 million to over 300 projects in 15 countries hardest hit by the pandemic.
These grassroots organizations are the lifeline for their communities: they provide counselling and education about HIV prevention, care and treatment; distribute food, medication and other necessities; reach the sick and vulnerable through home-based health care; help orphans and vulnerable children access education and work through their grief; and support grandmothers caring for their orphaned grandchildren
The impact is staggering: lives are being restored, hope is being rekindled, communities are being rebuilt. Hope is rising from the grassroots where the tide of HIV and AIDS is beginning to turn.
