People sometimes used to tell me…

People sometimes used to tell me that childhood is the best time of your life. Anybody heard that one before? It seems to me that there’s a kind of lottery involved in that assumption. Meaning.. If you happen to be born in good circumstances.. with love, peace and security all around, then you’re off to a good start. The Victorians loved their children.. in their particularly Victorian way, but it took a while for them to realise that perhaps children shouldn’t be sent to work in the mines. In some ways I think we’re not that much different. The Western world has all the latest in everything technological. We can consume anything we like, providing we’ve got the money to pay for it. The choices are limitless. Yet in other parts of the world, children living in abject poverty are suffering and struggling with the most basic essentials in order to merely survive. Thoughts?
