Since living in the US I’ve come to have a deeper understanding of the history of the country.
Founded on systems of slavery, genocide and barbarity… like many countries all over the world.
Colson Whitehead’s exceptional book is a challenging read.
I feel it ought to be on every school curriculum..Every child in the US and elsewhere should know these truths.
If you don’t realise the full effects of historical slavery and racial abuse, then you’re living in a kind of ignorance or denial.
It’s part of our collective responsibility to fully grasp the historical background of ‘racism’ - not only in America, but all over the world.
I highly recommend you read this book if you haven’t done so already. Love Annie

This picture from Associated Press speaks volumes.
And I can only assume that, like you, I’m horrified by such an event. Just as we’re shocked by the incidences of wildfires and devastation in what is evidently an ever increasing cycle of catastrophic events.
This is why I support young global activists, whose future lies at stake.
When you feel paralysed by doom, the best you can do is to join forces by those who feel the same way..
even if it’s on a small scale.
This is how I try to bear in mind when I feel overwhelmed with frustration - grief and impotence.

Like everyone, my heart has been heavy and my mind preoccupied with crowds of thoughts about the “what if’s” and “ if only’s”….
I just want to share this little clip to remind ourselves of her strength, power, determination, humour and courage at TWENTY - FOUR years old!!! No-one knows what Sinead went through except her close friends and family, but here she is - speaking with such grace and dignity about how it feels to be publicly targeted and ‘taken down’ when you try to speak truth to power. Now there’s a global outpouring of love and appreciation, which is great, but I really wish she’d had more public support for what she was trying to get through.

As every day passes I realise that the war in Ukraine is still continuing.
This clip was posted by the New York Times today.
A filmed overview of hundreds of deliberately destroyed buildings.
A starkly shocking reminder as to how terrible and far things can go.
These are people’s actual homes and work places - Entire communities now have nothing to return to. Mothers, Fathers, Children, Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Friends and Colleagues…
Total desolation. The ultimate vandalism.
Where was everyone when this horror took place? Did they manage to hide or escape??
How could anyone survive such a hellish situation?
This is a the REAL horror that war brings to ordinary people just trying to live their lives as best they can.

I cannot even begin to imagine the mental and physical stress and trauma this has caused.
Nothing and no-one should ever have the right to serve and deliver an apocalypse like this.
It is utterly deplorable.
How could anyone go to sleep with a clear conscience after taking part in any of this?
Surely this HAS to stop.

It seems these kinds of inventions/phenomena are somehow ‘foisted’ upon us all without any kinds of checks and balances. The power of the ‘new’ seduces us into simply accepting these things because they’re THERE and there’s nothing we seem to be able to do about it.
If the powers that be in the political and business world were as invested in tackling the REAL issue of CLIMATE EMERGENCY we might not be at the tipping point of a catastrophic crisis.
But there’s always some new invention to distract us away from what we REALLY need.
Pandora can’t close the box..

I feel compelled to share this powerful video. A father is apparently joking with his daughter that she can’t go to school but this little girl from Afghanistan profoundly realises and understands the meaning of ‘Feminism’ better than many adults.

In her country, girls and women are increasingly prevented from having an education. That is sadly no joke.

Things there have taken a huge step backwards and women and girls are being denied their fundamental freedom and human rights. This is the reason I identify as a Global Feminist.
