Dear Friends,
I’m sure many of you are parents.
And I’m sure, like me, you must often wonder how it can be that ‘adults’ - supposed’ grown ups, who have children can possibly justify the killing and wounding of Palestinian children in their tens of thousands. I’m sure most of the global political leaders, the manufacturers and merchants of weaponary - bombs, guns, drones and bullets, have children. How do they sleep at night? Don’t they have nightmares, after they’ve seen the little bodies wrapped in shrouds, or bleeding out on a blood drenched gurney, among crowds of desperate and dying people?? How can they live with themselves????
THEY REALLY DON’T CARE!!!!

Please listen to the devastating testimony of Haitham Salem, who was just released from a recent prisoner exchange, to discover his wife and children had all been killed in Israeli airstrikes.
His description of the torturous treatment and appalling conditions in Israeli jails is as harrowing as your worst nightmares.
It must’ve be understood that the so - called Peace agreement is being constantly violated in Gaza. Don’t be fooled into thinking the situation in Gaza has been resolved. We cannot look away and fall back into a false sense of ‘security.’
Gaza is STILL under siege.

Dear Friends,
I just wanted to share this adorable letter I was given by 6 year old Patricia, who came to the Rizzoli Bookstore in NYC to my book signing two evenings ago. She’s the sweetest little girl - very bright and articulate!
She made me reflect on all Gaza’s children who have been exposed to widespread killing, injury, malnutrition and displacement in addition to severe psychological trauma.Tens of thousands of children have been killed or wounded..Gaza now has the highest number of child amputees per capita in the world. Almost every single school in Gaza has been damaged or destroyed, with nearly 650,000 children without access to formal education. The list of tortuous violations is endless,
as much as is the desperate need.

As the exhausted, hungry, wounded, grieving, traumatised Palestinian people move from the South to the North of Gaza once again, they pass through a totally unrecognisable landscape that has been deliberately destroyed. A barren grey wasteland of broken concrete rubble and toxic dust…
The aftermath of a war where over 100,000 tonnes of explosives were dropped upon the Gaza Strip. The nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima was equivalent to 15,000 tons of TNT.
Israel carried out 12,000 massacres.
2,200 families have been completely wiped out, with
62,000 Palestinian deaths or disappearances, including over 10,000 still buried under the rubble.

After two years of witnessing the abject horror of violence being carried out on an industrial scale, I can’t help but wonder what it means in terms of how it affects everyone. Not only the victims of violence.. but the perpetrators..
When you hurt others by pulling the trigger of a gun, or pressing the button to drop the bomb… surely it must leave some kind of indelible mark upon your very soul? And then we see the more ‘casual’ face to face kicking, beating and punching..
Does that make the abuser feel ‘good’ afterwards?
There’s something psychotic that is unleashed when people are given ‘permission’ or ‘command’ to hurt others.
I cannot comprehend it.
The WORST impulse of all humanity.
