On Wednesday 31st August, Annie Lennox OBE will be awarded the Walpole Medal of Excellence at a glittering reception at Edinburgh’s Balmoral Hotel, held in association with Adam & Company. Walpole is the not for profit organisation that represents the British luxury industry and whose members include a number of leading Scottish companies in its roster of over 170 of Britain’s leading luxury brands.

The Walpole Medal recognises outstanding excellence in every aspect of the recipient’s work and activities and is presented biannually in Scotland. One of the finest and most extraordinary musical voices of our time, singer, songwriter, campaigner and activist, Annie Lennox is celebrated as an innovator, an icon, and a symbol of enduring excellence. As an eight time BRIT award winner, four time Grammy winner, with more than 20 international hits across the world and over 80 million record sales to date, Annie’s music career has been unparalleled since she first teamed up with Dave Stewart in the early 1970’s and they formed Eurythmics in 1979.

Annie was founder of the SING campaign in 2007 which raises funds to help increase awareness and prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa and has already reached out to thousands of people. In addition to the SING campaign, in 2010 she was made Scotland’s Special Envoy to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on HIV/AIDS. Annie Lennox is also a Global Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS Ambassador for Oxfam, Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Campaign, Amnesty International, The British Red Cross, London, as well as supporting numerous other organisations. She was awarded an OBE in the 2011 New Year Honours List.

Annie Lennox’s devotion to charity activities and her worldwide musical achievements have recently been acknowledged with a number of other prestigious awards including the Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef at the annual Silver Clef Awards on 1st July, which recognises outstanding contribution in UK music. Also in 2011 she has received a Great Scot Award and the Daily Record Hero Award. Annie Lennox commented – "I’m amazed and delighted to become the recipient of the prestigious Walpole Award. To be considered worthy of such recognition in Scotland is especially resonant for me. It’s an absolute honour and privilege"!
