German Sustainability Awards

We are delighted to announce that Annie Lennox was presented with a Special Achievement Award at the 2008 German Sustainability Awards at a ceremony that took place in Düsseldorf on December 5, 2008. The award was to recognize  Annie’s  commitment to a sustainable future, in particular through her commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS and continued efforts to use her public persona to speak out for humanitarian causes via her work with  Treatment Action Campaign, Oxfam, Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Campaign, the ‘Together’ climate campaign and many more projects.

On the day of the ceremony Annie made a special presentation to attendees and media about SING and The Treatment Action Campaign screening footage of a young girl called Avilelie before and after treatment.

The award ceremony itself ran late into the evening with Scorpions singer Klaus Meine introducing Annie at around midnight to receive her special achievement award. After receiving the award Annie took to the stage and performed five songs at an electric piano. These included "Many Rivers To Cross"  "A 1000 Beautiful Things"  "There Must Be An Angel" "Sweet Dreams" followed by an encore of "Sister’s Are Doing It For Themselves" with a backdrop of the SING anniversary film.
