I have been fascinated with music all my life, but I didn’t start to harbour the dream of becoming a singer /songwriter/recording artist until i was in my early twenties. I had no idea how to go about it, and i still maintain that there is no actual “formula”. You have to start with a gift, then be devoted to it with a passion, even this there is no guarantee that you’ll ever fulfill your ambitions. The best you can do is be fully in the moment!
I love being in the studio…singing behind a microphone with a great sound and headphones on is my “place”… that’s one of the spaces I love to be in.
My partnership with Dave Stewart in Eurythmics has been absolutely unique in all kinds of ways. The one thing we shared with avengeance was the “creative zone”… that’s a special telepathic space for artists. All the songs we ever recorded had moments of struggle and inspiration. Sometimes it was like climbing the Matterhorn, then at other times the fruit was just falling off the trees!
We’ve been through a hell of a journey together …and apart. Eurythmics was the soundscape of our lives…and still is.
As the eighties drew to a close, I was curious to know if I could stand on my own two feet… Then there was Diva, and the beginning of another chapter.
Looking back…it’s a beautiful catalogue of songs. I hope it brings you joy, memories, inspiration, solace… whatever…
