That feeling of queasy uncertainty

Well..the recent "western" world economic events have left everyone with that feeling of  queasy uncertainty…coupled with the countdown to the US elections, these are wobbly times on this side of the bed indeed. I’m not a US citizen, but I can tell you that people are watching this campaign with baited breath all around the world. I’ve said  my piece about Sarah Palin..no need to repeat. America is a divided country…those who "get" the bigger picture, and those who don’t. Those who get suckered in by a neat hairstyle and a folksy wink, and those who realise that you have to have  a bit more "substance" to be a world leader….Or do you????
It’s down to the citizens to make the choice..This is where democracy gets scary, because the "majority" don’t always know what’s best.
I was living in a basement flat in Notting Hill in the early seventies, and then Dave and I lived in Crouch End through the recession years. Every second shop on the Broadway was to let, or was being used for charity. Those were edgy times.. We always thought we were heading towards the apocalypse…and we weren’t  too far off course. The Cold War, the Berlin Wall, The Iron Curtain, the nuclear arms race…the whole shebang was right there and then.
I was thinking about the ancient "yin yang" symbol today…and it really is so perfect. One half of the sphere is black/ the shadow/negative/masculine/ and the other is white/light/positive/ feminine. That’s the condition of life…always…polarised opposites in co existence. That’s how we are on the inside, and that’s what’s happening on the outside too. It’s just a question of where the "balance/harmony" lies. That’s why my songs are always drawn to the major/minor mix…That’s what "blues" is all about…Exquisite pain and sorrow..co existing with beauty and truth.
That’s what the deep core of "soul" music is all about. Nuff said.
