There are so many constant challenges going on in the world. Very often I / You / We feel overwhelmed and powerless to make any difference towards transformative change. When I’m asked to contribute to an initiative I can endorse, it feels as if it’s the very least I can do. I appreciate very well the privilege of my own circumstance – living in a relatively peaceful Western country, with access to so many resources that billions of people could never even dream of.
Having spent the last few weeks in South Africa I feel a constant sense of despair and frustration about the kinds of endemic social and economic injustices and disparities that still continue to fester, more than twenty years after the end of apartheid.
Most of my concerns are for the future generations of young people growing up into a world that offers them almost nothing in terms of education, security, opportunity, sustainability and a decent quality of life… How fragile we are indeed.
